The Call of the Wild Ride

There's a really good article about Coney Island today in the Times by (not surprisingly) Mark Caldwell. Caldwell is one of the few reporters, along with Neil deMause of the Village Voice, Rich Calder of the Post and I would like to think myself, covering Coney Island who has really taken the time to show some of the depth of the issue. On a related note, the little known Brooklyn Eagle probably has the best coverage overall, and Gowanus and especially Kinetic Carnival do a knockout job in the blogosphere, not that anyone cares about my opinion.

Make sure you watch the video, it does a good job of letting Carol Albert of Astroland and Dennis Vourderis of Deno's Wonder Wheel express their opinions of the developments for more than ten seconds.

Rich Calder? The same guy who reported Gargiulo's was closing, then a day later had to write an "oops, nevermind" article because he never bothered to contact Gargiulo's before reporting it.

Rich Calder? The same guy who reported that Astroland has struck a deal to stay open for another year. Which was wrong (maybe they'll strike a deal at some point, but it hasn't happened yet.)

Gowanus Lounge? Are you serious? Any monkey with a camera can take photos and post them online and rewrite what the real reporters do.
